Questions:
Q: What if I'm afraid of knocking on doors?
A: GLOW Advance is just what you need.
Q: What about safety when we are out in the neighborhoods?
A: Each team of 18 people will be split into three sub-teams and go out in one of three vans. Each van will have six people with an experienced evangelsim leader who will be in the immediate neighborhood with his team working with them at the doors as much as possible. Also, people will be working streets in pairs; one person being on each side of the street in view of their partner. Professional walkie-talkie radios will be provided for necessary communication as well. This type of safety protocol has been used by the summer maga-book students for years as they have knocked on millions of doors. So far, there have been no major incidents. We do the best we can, and leave the rest with God knowing that we are doing His business. Ultimately we rely on His promise, "The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them." Ps. 34:7
Q: Will I be expected to drive my car while we are out in the field?
A: No. When we are out knocking on doors, transportation, drop offs, directions, and instructions will be provided by the GLOW Advance team leadership.
Q: What does the schedule look like on a GLOW Advance Sunday?
A: Each Sunday will always start at 10:00am sharp. It is prefferable to show up 10-15 minutes early. Aside from that, each Advance may vary slightly depending on circumstances but following is a basic outline of the schedule:
10:00-11:30 - Worship and training at local church facilities
11:30-2:30 - Spread the Three Angels' Message
2:30-3:30 - Non-dairy vegetarian lunch provided by the local church
3:30-6:30 - Spread the Three Angels' Message
6:30-7:30 - Testimony Time/Awarding of GLOW Advance Pins
Note* When you register for a GLOW Advance, you are committing to your team that you will work with them for the full amount of time in the field. Attendance at the testimony time is optional but recommended.
Q: Is there an age-limit for anyone who wants to participate?
A: You must be at least 16 to participate. Due to the amount of physical activity that it takes to go from door to door for six hours, we recommend that you seriously consider if you are able to participate if you are 50 or above.
Q: How can a team of 18 people knock on every door in an entire city?
A: Cities that will be reached through GLOW Advance are picked specifically for their size ensuring that they can be finished in the allotted amount of time for each Advance. Repeaters in the GLOW Advance Program who have sufficient capabilities, will be trained into leadership positions thus enabling more GLOW Advance teams. Accordingly, when multiple teams come together, bigger cities can be finished.
Q: What if I live far away but want to attend one of the GLOW Advances?
A: The GLOW Advance schedule is set up for anyone to travel for up to two hours comfortably in coming and going. If you live farther away and would like to stay over night either before or after the GLOW Advance you are responsible for finding food and lodging. GLOW Advances will be held throughout the Central California Conference though. Simply look online at our calendar, and when you see that one is going to be close to your location, then it will be easier to join.
Q: How do meals work?
A: You are responsible for breakfast. A vegan lunch will be provided by the local church at 2:30.
Q: Where does my $20 go? Also, if I write a check, who do I make it out to?
A: The $20 you bring to each GLOW Advance will be used to help cover the costs of transportation while we are out in the field and the GLOW Advance Pin which will be awarded you at the completion of each Advance. Checks can be made out to "Central California Conference."
Q: What is a GLOW Advance Pin?
A: Each time you complete an Advance you will be given a special pin which will show how many Advances you have accomplished. These pins, when worn at the annual conference GLOW rallies, will be a sign of accomplishment and encouragement to others.
Q: Who is sponsoring this program?
A: GLOW Advance is a sub-ministry of the GLOW program which is an official evangelism initiative of the Central California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
Q: Is it legal for us to go into neighborhoods and knock on doors?
A: The United States Supreme Court recognizes that Seventh-day Adventist door to door proselytizing is fully protected under the Constitution's First Amendment. Paperwork indicating this is with each GLOW Advance team.
Q: Will we be working in towns where there are Spanish speaking people and if so, how will that work for someone who does not speak Spanish?
A: Basic training as well as materials will be provided so that those who don't know how to speak Spanish will be able to effectively reach Spanish-speaking families as well.
Q: Can I bring my family with me to the Advance?
A: If an entire family wants to participate in a GLOW Advance, each member must meet the age requirements noted above. No children or infants please. Each member of the family will be considered an individual in regards to the $20 cost. Lastly, family members may be put in different sub-team vans. Special requests can be made on sight with the GLOW Advance team leadership.
